DHAKA: BNP standing committee member Brigadier General (retd) ASM Hannan Shah raised question to upcoming fair municipal polls by blaming that the returning officers for their partiality to the ruling party candidates.
BNP has taken the polls as a challenge and it will be the last chance for the Election Commission (EC), he opined.
The BNP leader made this assertion while addressing a discussion on victory Day, organized by Swadhinata Forum central committee at National Press club in city on Sunday.
‘Earlier, we participated in two city corporation polls to give the government a chance for arranging fair election. But they had failed. We hope the situation will not repeat.’
BNP has taken the upcoming municipality polls as a challenge and given the EC the last chance, he added.
He also blamed the EC saying that it is not fully impartial. ‘All the returning officers are government employees. They are bias to the government.’
