DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday demanded deployment of army during the imminent municipal polls in the country.
Khaleda Zia was addressing a rally of freedom fighters at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in city in the evening.
Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal organized the rally to commemorate country’s Victory Day.
She alleged ruling Awami League did not want army deployment fearing BNP would get 80 percent of votes if the elections be free and fair.
Khaleda Zia also said there was no freedom fighter in Awami League and they have no sympathy for the countrymen.
The BNP chief also said none but Sheikh Hasina had committed crimes.
Mentioning that Awami League’s dream of constructing the Padma Bridge will remain a dream, she pledged to construct the Padma Bridge through Daulatdia-Paturia route if BNP assumes power.
She also condemned the Election Commission (EC) saying it failed to take actions against the ruling party candidates for their breaking the code of conduct.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury, founder of Gonoswasthaya Kendra, a rural healthcare organization, and BNP vice-chairman Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, among others, also addressed the program.
