EC bans motorcycle plying

DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) has imposed a ban on motorcycle plying from midnight of December 27 to 6am of December 31 for municipal polls.

Moreover, all types of vehicle plying will be restricted from midnight of December 29 to midnight of December 30 and vessel plying will also be banned during this time.

EC issued the directives signed by its assistant secretary Rajib Ahsan in the regard and sent them to the road and highways department secretary and shipping ministry secretary.

With EC’s permission rival candidates, election agents, reporters from home and abroad, election related officials, law enforcers and legal inspectors will remain purview of this ban.

Moreover, ambulance, fire service, power, gas, post and telecommunications and other important sectors will also remain out of the restriction.

EC sources said public transports especially town service, long distance vehicles in road and waterway will also remain purview aiming to remove public woes.

Municipal polls to be held on December 30 in 234 municipalities across the country. Some 923 candidates are vying for mayor posts and 1122 for councilor posts.
