DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) announced the postponement of Madhabdi municipality poll while returning officials concerned postponed the other 31 centers in 13 municipalities.
In first ever partisan municipal election, voting was held in 234 municipalities across the country.
The postponement was announced due to sporadic clashes, chase and counter chase between supporters of ruling Awami League (AL) and BNP.
However, despite some sporadic incidents, municipality elections were held peacefully across the country.
Madhabdi municipality:
The Election Commission (EC) postponed the polls in Madhabdi municipality of Narsingdi district on allegation of vote rigging, violence, spreading panic and blasting bombs.
EC deputy secretary Shamsul Alam confirmed the matter to banglanews in the afternoon.
He further said the EC will fix the date for re-voting in the municipality.
Moreover, voting were also postponed at 10 centers in Chowmuhani municipality in Noakhali district, five in Syedpur of Nilphamari, three each in Chandanaish of Chittagong and Jamalpur municipality of Jamalpur district, two in Ulipur in Kurigram and one each in Kalia of Narail, Nagarkanda of Faridpur, Bhaluka of Mymensingh, Barura of Comilla, Sarishabari in Jamalpur, Kuakata of Patuakhali, Begati and Barguna municipalities of Barguna district,
