DHAKA: The Supreme Court appellate division has released the full verdict on the appeal of war criminal Delawar Hossain Sayedee challenging the death penalty handed down to him by a war crimes tribunal.

On September 17 in 2014, the apex court, in its order, commuted Sayedee’s death sentence to imprisonment until death.

The copy of 614-page full verdict has been published on website of the Supreme Court on Thursday (December 31) morning.

Earlier, former chief justice Muzammel Hossain (now retired), Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha (now the chief justice) and Justice Hasan Foez Siddique gave Sayedee imprisonment until his death, Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah acquitted him of all charges, and Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik have signed the full verdict.

On Feb 28 last year, the International Crimes Tribunal handed down death penalty to Sayedee’s for his involvement in crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

Out of the 20 charges against him, Sayedee was given the capital punishment for two.

The charges are  the murder of Ibrahim Kutti and Bisabali, and for setting fire to Hindu households in Pirojpur district in 1971.

Six other charges were also proven beyond doubt but no sentence was given separately.
