CHITTAGONG: Law enforcers detained 260 people including two members of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir during several drives in last 24-hour till Saturday morning (June 18) from the district.
City police public relations department confirmed the matter to banglanews adding that 101 people were held from the port city and the rest from 16 thanas.
A press release issued by the department said among the detainees from the city, 40 were held in special drives. The police team also seized 3,685-piece yaba tablets, 2-kg of hemp, 100-liter liquor and 10-bottle Phensidyle.
They also recovered three knives, a range, a screw driver and torchlight from their possession.
Chittagong additional superintendent of police (special branch) Rezaul Masud told banglanews that they detained 159 people from 16 thanas of the district.
Among them, two are Jamaat-Shibir men while 124 facing arrest warrants.
Of the arrestees, three were held under police act while three others for separate incidents.
The police also seized a light-gun and 1,083-piece yaba from the spots, he added.
