BNP not to take tougher prog on Tarique issue

DHAKA: BNP will not take any tougher program as a protest of the High Court (HC)’s verdict of seven-year imprisonment to the party senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman in a money laundering case filed by Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party senior leaders at BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political office in city’s Gulshan area on Thursday night (July 21).

BNP sources said that the leaders expressed their surprise as the HC’s sentence overturned a lower court verdict that acquitted Tarique of the money laundering case.

The BNP leaders also decided to file a petition to the court to review the HC verdict.

The sources further said that BNP will arrange rally as a protest of the HC decision.

The protest program will be announced at a press conference at BNP central office in city’s Nayapaltan area at 11:00am on Friday (July 22).
