DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called dawn-to-dusk hartal for Wednesday (August 31) protesting the upheld of death penalty of its leader war criminal Mir Quasem Ali for his war crimes during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
Acting secretary general of Jamaat, Shafiqur Rahman, made the announcement in a statement published on the party’s website.
The statement also said ambulances, hearses, hospital, and vehicles related to fire service, hajj pilgrims and newspapers will be out of the hartal purview.
On Tuesday (August 30), the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed the review petition and upheld the death penalty of Jamaat leader Mir Quasem Ali.
