DHAKA: The names of another 22 members of central working committee of ruling Awami League (AL) was declared on Tuesday (October 25).
Party’s newly elected general secretary Obaidul Quader announced their names at AL president’s Dhanmondi political office in Dhaka.
Earlier, names of 21 members, including the president and general secretary, out of the 81-member central working committee were announced during the 20th AL national council.
This announcement left 38 posts, including those of three presidiums members, five secretaries, two deputy secretaries and 28 executive council members, of the committee vacant.
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) former president Enamul Haque Shamim and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) former mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury’s son Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel were elected as organizing secretaries.
Mrinal Kanti Das was made liberation war affairs secretary while Asim Kumar Ukil as cultural affairs secretary.
Obaidul Quader said the 28 members of executive council will be elected in the first meeting of new presidium members on Friday (October 28) and names of five secretaries and two deputy secretaries will be announced within a few days.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was elected unequivocally as AL president for the eighth time at a stretch and Obaidul Quader as general secretary in the national council.
Premier Sheikh Hasina announced the names of 14 presidium members, treasure and four deputy general secretaries.
The newly elected presidium members are - Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Matia Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim, M Nasim, Kazi Zafar Ullah, Advocate Sahara Khatun, Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Syed Ashraful Islam, Pijush Kanti Bhattacharya, Nurul Islam Nahid, Ramesh Chandra Sen, Dr. Abdur Razzak, Colonel (Retd) Faruk Khan and advocate Abdul Mannan.
Deputy general secretaries are Mahbub-Ul-Alam Hanif, Dr. Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman while HN Ashiqur Rahman was re-elected as treasurer.
