BAGERHAT: Police detained four members of banned extremist outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Daratana Bridge of the district town early Thursday (November 3).
The detainees were identified as Morshed Alam, 20; Saiful Islam, 36; Jahirul Islam, 22; and Maksudur Rahman alias Tota, 24, hailing from Satkhira and Pirojpur districts.
Bagerhat Model Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman Khan told Banglanews that a joint team of DB police led by additional police super and Model Thana Police raided the area after learning about a sabotage plan.
“Sensing the presence of law enforcers, JMB men opened fire and threw crude bombs aiming the police members prompting them to open firing, leaving two cops injured,” he added.
Later, police detained the four though others managed to flee the scene, OC Mizanur said.
He further said police seized one locally made gun, two rounds of bullets and one crude bomb like object.
Four cases were filed with Bagerhat Model Thana against the detainees on the charge of obstructing police from discharging government duties, and under explosives and ICT acts, he added.
