DHAKA: The High Court (HC) on Tuesday (November 22) ordered the director general of department of immigration and passports (DIP) to issue a machine readable passport (MRP) to BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed within seven days.
An HC bench comprising Justice Qamrul Islam Siddique and Justice Sheikh Hasan Arif pronounced the order granting a rule regarding the issue.
Senior lawyer Jaynul Abedin moved for Rizvi in the court.
Rizvi applied for MRP to the DIP authorities by submitting his old passport on December 10, 2015 but he didn’t get the new passport which was scheduled to be delivered on December 31.
Later on May 29 of 2016, Rizvi filed a writ petition with the HC in this regard.
On June 7, The High Court (HC) issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why it would not order them to deliver an MRP to Rizvi.
