NARAYANGANJ: The returning officer of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) elections Nuruzzaman Talukder distributed symbols among the candidates on Monday morning.

Ruling Awami League-led 14-party-backed mayoral runner Selina Hayat Ivy has got the party symbol ‘Boat’ while Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)-backed runner Shakhawat Hossain Khan got ‘Paddy Sheaf’.

The city corporation poll is scheduled to be held on December 22 for the first time with party symbols.

Besides, the Workers’ Party candidate Mahbubur Rahman Ismail got symbol ‘Spade’, Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) Kamal Pradhan ‘Umbrella’, Kalyan Party’s Rashed Ferdaus ‘Wrist Watch’, Islami Shasantantra Andalan’s candidate Masum Billah ‘Hand-fan’ and Islami Oikyajot’s Mufti Ejharul Haq got ‘Minar’.

Earlier on December 4 the last day to withdraw candidacy, JASAD’s candidate Moslem Uddin revoked his candidacy and pledged to support 14-party’s candidate Ivy in the polls.
