Former BNP MP Ashraf dies

KHULNA: Former member of parliament (MP) from Khulna-3 constituency and whip of the Parliament Md Ashraf Hossain passed away on early Saturday. He was 80.

He breathed his last at around 3:00 am while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of United Hospital in Dhaka.

Ashraf, who was a former joint secretary general of the BNP, is survived by his two sons, only daughter and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death.

Ashraf's close political ally AKM Moshfekus Salehin Pilot confirmed the matter to media.

He said Ashraf had been suffering from cancer and heart problems for long. He was admitted to United Hospital 25 days ago. But his condition deteriorated on Friday night and died several hours later.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held after Zuhr prayers at Nikunja-2 Jame Mosque in Dhaka. Later he will be buried at his family graveyard in Comilla, according to another source.

Md Ashraf Hossain elected member of the parliament four times from Khulna-3 constituency with BNP’s ticket.  He had been involved with BNP’s politics for long. However, his political carrier with the party came to an end for being an alleged reformist during the political changeover of 1/11 in 2008.
