Youth shot dead, 4 hurt in Ctg city poll violence

A youth was shot to death and four others injured in a clash between the supporters of two rival councillor candidates of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election on Wednesday.

The elections to CCC began at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break.

The incident occurred in Pahartoli Ward-13 when supporters of Awami league-backed councillor candidate Wasim Uddin Chowdhury and AL rebel candidate Mahmudur Rahman engaged in a clash outside of a polling station around 10:30am.

The deceased was identified as Alauddin, son of Sultan Mia from Cumilla. He was a supporter of Mahmudur Rahman.

Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost ASI Aladuddin Talukder confirmed the information to Banglanews.

Alauddin was shot by rival gunman during the clash and brought to CMCH where doctor pronounced him dead. A motorcycle was torched during the clash, according to local sources.

However, voting in that centre is proceeding despite the violent clash that took place outside, said Assistant Returning Officer Bashir Ahmed.
