Bashundhara Kings’ Spanish head coach Oscar Bruzon heaved a sigh of great relief after his side clinched full three points against Indian Super Cup champions Odisha Football Club after registering a 3-2 goals win in their second Group D match of the ongoing AFC Cup 2033-24 at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on Monday.
“The win is very sweet…We didn’t get three points in the first game. We could not afford to lose this match in front of our people at our arena,” Bruzon told reporters after the victory.
“Our players worked very hard in the last two weeks to make a comeback in the competition. Now if we want to qualify for the next stage, we need something against Mohun Bagan," the coach added.
Kings earlier suffered a humiliating 1-3 goals defeat to Dhivehi Premier League champions Maziya Sports and Recreation Club in their first group match in Maldives on September 19.
The defeat put a lot of pressure on the BPL champions but they bounced back strongly by clinching a brilliant win on Monday.
Despite conceding a goal early in the match, Kings’ Brazilian midfielder Miguel Figueira Damasceno opened the account in the 39th minute before another Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento scored two in the 45th and 54th minute.
Odisha defender Jerry Lalrinzuala returned one goal back in the 66th minute but Kings held their nerves in the dying minutes of the game to confirm their victory.
