Afghanistan whitewash Bangladesh 3–0

Bangladesh slid to a chastening 3–0 defeat against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, compounding a run of batting failures that saw Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s side twice reset their lowest ODI totals against the same opponent within three days.

After folding for 109 while chasing 191 in the second ODI, Bangladesh were routed for 93 in the series finale in pursuit of 294, handing Afghanistan a 200-run victory at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

The sweep capped Afghanistan’s third successive ODI series win over Bangladesh in as many years, following successes in 2023 (2–1) and 2024.

The finale underscored the gulf on current form: Afghanistan posted 293 for 9 before skittling Bangladesh in 27.1 overs, their bowlers bossing a line-up that has struggled for both top-order stability and middle-order resistance.

Bangladesh’s capitulation echoed the second ODI, where Ibrahim Zadran’s 95 set up 190 and Rashid Khan’s 5 for 17 iced an 81-run win as the Tigers were dismissed for 109.

In the opener, Afghanistan chased 222 with five wickets to spare to take control of the series.

Coaches and analysts will point to injudicious shot selection, repeated top-order failures and a brittle middle order as the principal causes of Bangladesh’s unraveling—problems that have eroded confidence as quickly as results. The 3–0 scoreline and twin low-water marks with the bat starkly illustrate the team’s current crisis.
