Simmons replaces Hathurusingha as Tigers' coach

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially terminated the contract of Chandika Hathurusingha as head coach of the national cricket team.

Hathurusingha, who was reappointed in January 2023, was initially expected to serve until February 2025.

However, the decision to end his contract came after disappointing performances and allegations of misconduct. This includes the team's underwhelming results in major tournaments such as the Asia Cup and World Cup, which likely intensified scrutiny over his leadership.

Faruque Ahmed, the new BCB president, had previously voiced concerns about Hathurusingha's suitability for the role, even before taking office. He emphasized that the decision to rehire the coach was a mistake, attributing past successes more to team efforts than to Hathurusingha's individual contributions.

In Hathurusingha’s place, former West Indian all-rounder Phil Simmons has been selected as the new head coach. Simmons brings a wealth of experience, having previously coached several international teams, including the West Indies and Afghanistan.
