“Cow is out of the barn”

Yusuf Rahaman Babu was a leading All Rounder who represented Bangladesh National Team in the early Years of Bangladesh. He was also a high quality Basket Ball Player. Now he lives in USA. From time to time we share our concern about Bangladesh Cricket in Facebook. Recently we talked about the situation arising out of players’ management of BCB with specific Reference to Sakibul Hasan. The following is the text of our discussion.

Saleque: What is your opinion about the present state of Bangladesh Cricket? Why they cannot take actions against defaulting players?

Yusuf Rahman: Saleque, it is too late. It is the BCB, with its inept and unprofessional approach along with the media that has created their own. As I say, the Cow is out of the barn. They needed to milk the cow when they had it in the barn.

Ever since we got Test March status, BD cricket has been run like our domestic club cricket and noticing has changed. Politicians, and that too, corrupt and uncouth ones, continue to call the shots. The game in Bangladesh has been taken over by the illiterates who have no idea about the swept of the game. I cannot see BD cricket going on to the next level in the near future.

Saleque: How do you think that the present situation can be Remedied?

Yusuf Rahman: First and foremost, this entire generation needs to be educated. The politicians have conveniently and deliberately obliterated the contributions of our time.

Regretfully, they are unwilling to accept anything prior to 1997 when BD won the ICC trophy. In my mind, today’lot is cricket players not cricketers. It takes a lot to be a cricketer. BCB has a dilemma. How does it handle the Frankenstiens that it created?
