Tigers take 152-run lead

DHAKA: Host Bangladesh wrapped visiting Zimbabwe at 374 in the third day afternoon in the first innings of the third and final test of Bashundhara Cement Test Series at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong Friday.

The host began batting in the 2nd innings and played 9 overs before the umpires took the bails as the day ends. Bangladesh’s now lead by 152 runs at Chittagong.

Openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes are on crease with 8 off 24 balls and 11 off 30 balls respectively.

The visitors contributed 4 runs extra scoring the Tigers 23 runs in total to end the day.

In the 1st innings, Zimbabwe scored 374 all out. Raza, 82, Masakadza, 81, Chakbva, 65, and Chigumbura, 88, each made significant contributions.

Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam took the wickets of two tail enders. Shafiul Islam claimed Chakabva’s wicket breaking a resilient from the visitors.

Chakabva made a firm stand with Chigumbura at the other end to expose the tail end of the visiting side before tea.

Jubair Hosain claimed five wickets. He threw Chigumbura, Sikandar Raza, Zimbabwe skipper Taylor, Ervine, and M'shangwe out of the crease.

Shafiul took the credit of removing danger man Hamilton Masakadza.

Masakadza and Raza built a 169-run partnership after the visitors began the day three at 113/1 this morning.

In the 1st innings, Bangladesh, seemingly gave a roaring onslaught with a great opening stand to score 503 runs all out on the second day of the Test.

Openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes hit tons scoring 109 off 171 balls and 130    off 257 balls before leaving the pitch. Shakib contributed 71 runs off 110 to the scoreboard until he got caught by Ervine bowled by Raza.

Mominul Haque and Rubel Hossain both narrowly missed to hit the half century scoring 48 off 100 balls and 45 off 44 balls not out respectively.

Bangladesh skippers Mushfiqur Rahim, however, contributed less. He scored 15 and was the victim of a straightly bowled out of visiting danger man Masakadza.
