SYLHET: Former Bangladesh national team skipper Rajin Saleh has made formal announcement to retire from all forms of cricket. 

He made the disclosure during the opening of Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe first Test at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, on Saturday (Nov 3).

Rajin attended the opening as a guest, marking the stadium’s debut in hosting Test cricket.

The 34-year-old right-handed batsman said he will retire from competitive cricket after playing a National Cricket League match to be held in Cox’s Bazar on November 5. 

“I’m retiring from competitive cricket through playing the NCL match,” he said appearing at the press box of the stadium in his hometown. 

“You all have supported me. You the sports journalists have made me this ‘Rajin Saleh’”

He also credited his friends, family, relatives and fans for supporting him during his career in cricket.

He played for the Tigers in 24 Tests and 43 ODIs from 2003 to 2008.

He was last seen playing in the national squad at the 2008 Test at Sher-e-Bangla against New Zealand.

However, after the retirement, Rajin hopes to work as a cricket coach.
