West Indies 75/2 in 29 Overs (Kraig Braithwaite 49*, Nkrumah Bonner 178 Mustafizur Rahman 2/18)
West Indies trails by 355 runs in the 1st Innings with 8 Wickets at hand.
A brilliant spell of controlled swing bowling my Mustafizur Rahman playing test after 2 years put West Indies replying to a mammoth Bangladesh score of 440 back to the wall. He struck twice in his first spell having both John Campbell and Shayne Mosley (debutant) plumb in front. The tourists were tottering at 2/24. Mominul had to take him out of the attack after 7 hostile overs. Fizz was moving ball either direction at pace. From there on it was all spin attack. Four Bangladesh spinners got turn and bounce. But Captain Brathwaite and Nkrumah Bonner another debutant applied and at stumps remained unbeaten producing 51 runs in the unfinished third wicket. The tourists have task at hand on day three. The initial task would be getting past following on target of 230. Brathwaite looked great scoring 49 while Bonner was also unnerved at 17. Wicket was gripping and turning. But with no pace at the wicket batsmen had enough time playing late. Bangladesh bowlers will have taken out all the tricks of their hat tomorrow.
Earlier all Bangladesh batsmen excepting Tamim (9) and Mustafiz (3*) made some contributions in great team efforts in their Innings for a very commanding total of 430 all out. Promising Bangladesh all-rounder Mehedy Miraj expected to deliver with the bat finally produced a brilliant century 103 coming to bat at number 8. Bangladesh champion all-rounder Shakib produced 68. Staring the day at 242/5 Bangladesh quickly lost Liton (38) bowled by Warrican. Mehedy joining Shakib kept the momentum going. It was not easy going. West Indies bowlers made Bangladesh toil for every run. Shakib was looking good scoring yet another 50. He could not keep his cool after reaching 68. Trying to spank heavyweight off spinner with a vicious cut he spooned to Braithwaite. Mehedi was looking fluent. He had good allays in Taijul (18) and Naeem (24) in his brilliant innings of 103. Bangladesh reached a comfortable position scoring 430. Warrican bowled exceptionally well taking 4/ 133. If some catches were not dropped of his bowling and his team took DRS once he could cause much more damage. Rakheem was also impressive without luck going his way.
On a surface giving very little assistance to any kind of bowling West Indies bowlers made it difficult for Bangladesh. Yet every batsman applied. But most other than Megedy failed to convert good start to substantially big innings. It can happen as only cricket Bangladesh played over the past 12 months was limited over version. Hope with almost all batsmen staying longer at the wicket would bat more positively in the second innings if required and in the second test. But before that Bangladesh has to bowl well and take all catches that comes their way tomorrow. Hope Bangladesh won't repent not having Rahi as another pacer in the match.
BANGLADESH DEFINITELY IS AT DRIVERS SEAT AT STUMPS OF DAY TWO.
