Unregistered pvt hospitals, clinics to face action after Sunday

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is set to take action against unregistered private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres across the country after an end to a 72-hour ultimatum on the closure of such organisations.

Director (Hospital) of the DGHS Dr Belal Hossain confirmed it on Saturday noon.

He said that on May 25, they gave a 72-hour ultimatum to close the hospitals and clinics having no registrations and those which licences were not renewed.

The deadline will end on Sunday, he said, adding that they will sit with the officers concerned and take the next steps to close the hospitals and clinics.

He informed that some hospitals and clinics were closed after the ultimatum.

On the number of unregistered private hospitals and clinics, he said that they have no exact data on it.

But what they have are the number of hospitals and clinics given registration and the number in waiting to get licences.

In response to a question which way the drives will be carried out as there is not list of the illegal hospitals and clinics, he said that the district civil surgeons have the list of the illegal ones.

He clarified that there are 50 registered hospitals and clinics in Narsingdi; if there are more than those, the civil surgeon of the district has knowledge about.

As per the information of the civil surgeons, the drives are being operated and will do so.

On May 25, the officers of Directorate General of Health Services held a meeting with Additional Director General Professor Dr Ahmedul Kabir in the chair.
In the meeting, it was emphasised on monitoring and supervision.

A set of decisions were taken in the meeting too. One of the decisions was to close the unregistered private hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres and those which licences were not renewed. A 72-hour was fixed to do so.
