84-hr hartal observed amid violence

DHAKA: The 84-hour countrywide hartal, called by BNP-led 18-party alliance observed amid stray incidents of killing, picketing, chase and counter chase and blasts.

The parties observed the shutdown by bringing out sudden procession, exploding cocktails in various spots of city, torching vehicles and elsewhere of the country.

Last day of Violence:

Pickets blasted two cocktails near BNP Nayapaltan office in the last day of 84-hour hartal called by 18-party alliance.

Hartal supporters torched a passenger bus of S Alam Paribahan near Kamalapur Railway Station.

The incident took place at around 5:15pm.

In Jatrabari, Jamaat-BNP brought out a sudden procession in Rayerbagh Chapra mosque area and blasted 5/6 cocktails.

Besides, some 15 to 20 Shibir men brought out brisk procession in Dholaipar area of Jatrabari in the city at around 6:45am.

During the time, they exploded five cocktails and in reply, police fired five rounds of bullets, leaving two Shibir men shot by bullets.

In Sabujbagh, Shibir men brought out a brisk procession in Madartek area at around 7:00am.

During chase and counter chase with police, hartal supporters exploded four cocktails.

In north Badda, supporting hartal 18-party alliance brought out a brisk procession at around 7:15am and exploded four cocktails

In Narayanganj, Juba Dal men and police locked into clash in Rupganj upazila, leaving four people injured.

Besides, many stray incidents took place across the country and law enforcers arrested a good number of opposition men.

3rd day’s hartal violence:

At least 60 people were held and 32 were injured in separate incidents in different parts of the country on Tuesday during 84-hour hartal.
 
Besides, hartal supporters exploded dozens of cocktails, torched and vandalized couple of vehicles in several districts of the country including the capital.

2nd day’s hartal violence:

On the second day of shutdown, hartal supporters torched and vandalized vehicles, blasted cocktails in most of the divisional cities and districts including capital Dhaka.

Pickets blasted cocktails at Shahbagh, Bijoynagar, Hatirjheel, Shahjadpur, Fakirapool, Mahakhali and different areas of the capital.

First day’s hartal violence:

A man was killed and 40 others were injured in separate hartal violence in several districts of the country on Sunday.

Besides, law enforcers detained 28 people including office secretary of Narayanganj city BNP, general secretary of Munshiganj city Chhatra Dal and general secretary of Brahmanbaria district unit BNP from different parts of the country.

Police, however, seized 156 fresh hand grenades in Kanthalbagan area of the city on Sunday night.

At least 30 cocktails were hurled towards the police forces in Paltan, Karwan Bazar, Kalabagan and Nabisco Intersection of the city.

The opposition alliance observed the shutdown on demand of polls-time non-party caretaker government and in protest against the detention of central BNP leaders.
