GAZIPUR: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina underscored the need for mutual understanding and regional cooperation in alleviating poverty.

The Premier made the assertion while addressing a programme, arranged in honour of visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, around 11.30am Monday.

She said, “We have a very keen bilateral ties with Malaysia in regional cooperation, cultural and business dealings and we hope to uphold the relation.”

Sheikh Hasina also expressed her gratitude to Malaysian Prime Minister for the opportunities given to Bangladeshi illegal workers in Malaysia.

Earlier in the morning, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak paid tribute to the 1971 Liberation War martyrs by placing floral wreaths at the National Martyrs` Monument in Savar.
