3 killed in Ukhiya separate road accidents

At least three people, including a one-day-old child, were killed and four others injured in two separate road accidents on Ukhiya road in Cox's Bazar.

The incidents took place at Shahid ATM Jafar Alam Arakan Road (Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Road) Ukhia TV Tower area on Wednesday (March 15).

Of the deceased one was identified as Rafi Mia, 30. However, police suspected the other two are Rohingyas.

Shahpuri highway police outpost in charge Inspector Saiful Islam confirmed the matter.

He said a covered van heading towards Cox's Bazar hit a pickup van coming from the opposite direction at Ukhia TV Tower area on Cox's Bazar-Teknaf road around 10 pm on Wednesday, leaving the pickup van driver dead on the spot and four others injured.

In another accident at the same place, an ambulance carrying patients overturned around 11:30 pm, leaving two people, including a one-day-old child, dead on the spot, said the police inspector.

The injured have been admitted to the hospital, the official added.
