Around 47 shops were gutted in a fire at Bolipara Bazar area in Bandarban's Thanchi upazila this morning (March 22).

Locals said the fire originated in a tea-shop in the market around 6am and soon engulfed the adjoining shops.

According to Thanchi Fire Service, being informed, two units rushed to the spot and took the blaze under their control with the help of locals at about 8:30am after frantic efforts.

Thanchi Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Abul Mansoor said immediately after the fire broke out, local people along with law enforcement and fire service went to the spot and brought the fire under control. 

According to the businessmen, the extent of the damage could not be known yet. However, it will take time to determine the total damage.
