Journalist Shams again seeks bail in DSA case

Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams's lawyer filed a bail petition with Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court again in a case filed under Digital Security Act (DSA).

Advocate Prashanta Kumar Karmakar sought bail for Shamsuzzaman today (April 3).

The hearing is scheduled to be held at noon, said Prashanta Kumar.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzel Hossain sent Shamsuzzaman, Savar Correspondent of the Daily Prothom Alo, to jail on March 30 in the DSA case rejecting his bail plea.

Lawyer Abdul Malek (Mashiur Malek) lodged the case early hours of March 30 with Ramna Police Station accusing the newspaper's editor Matiur Rahman, reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams, an unnamed 'assistant cameraman', and unnamed others of "using print, online, and electronic media to tarnish the image and reputation of the state".

On Sunday (April 2), Prothom Alo editor and publisher Matiur Rahman granted six weeks' anticipatory bail by the High Court.
