Prothom Alo journo Shams gets bail

Prothom Alo journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams has been granted bail by a Dhaka court in a case filed under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order.

Journalist Shamsuzzaman Shams has been granted bail upon a bond of Tk 20,000.

Earlier, on March 30, lawyer Abdul Malek (Mashiur Malek) lodged the case with Ramna Police Station accusing the Prothom Alo's editor Matiur Rahman, reporter Shamsuzzaman Shams, an unnamed 'assistant cameraman', and unnamed others of "using print, online, and electronic media to tarnish the image and reputation of the state".

Later, Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzel Hossain sent Shamsuzzaman, The Daily Prothom Alo's Savar Correspondent, to jail in the DSA case rejecting his bail plea.
