52 more Bangladeshis return home from Sudan

A total of 52 Bangladeshi expatriates returned to Dhaka from war-torn Sudan via Saudi Arabia's capital Jedda today (May 11) in the second phase. 

A flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10 am.

On Wednesday, a total of 176 Bangladeshis arrived in Jeddah on a special flight of Badr Airlines from Port Sudan. Of them 52 people have returned home, said the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Employment, adding that the rest will be brought back gradually. 

Earlier on Monday, a total of 136 Bangladeshi immigrants returned home in the first phase from Sudan via Jedda.

On May 3, total 680 Bangladeshis were safely shifted to Port Sudan from Khartoum, the capital of Sudan. They were moved there by a total of 13 buses in two phases.

According to Embassy of Bangladesh Riyadh, about 1,500 Bangladeshi citizens live in Sudan, all of who can register to come back to the country, after which they will be brought back in phases

Sudan has plunged into a civil war that has so far claimed the lives of more than 600 people, including civilians, and displaced hundreds of thousands since last month.
