Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended operations of all types of water vessels across the country as cyclone Mocha intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm over east central Bay of Bengal.
The BIWTA took the decision on Saturday and it will remain in force till further order.
Mocha is moving towards south-east coast of Bangladesh and it may cross Cox’s Bazar-North Myanmar coast around 6am to 6pm on Sunday (May 14) and likely to make landfall, according to Met Office.
The cyclone was 795-865 kilometres from the Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra ports around 12 am on Saturday.
Cox's Bazar maritime port was advised to hoist Great Danger Signal 10 while Chattogram and Payra ports asked to keep hoisting Great Danger Signal 8 as extremely cyclone Mocha makes its way to the southeastern coast of Bangladesh.
Besides, Mongla port has been advised to keep hoisting Warning Signal 4.
