Victory Day parade cancelled

DHAKA: The government cancelled the Victory Day parade due to overall political condition of the country and the upcoming 10th national election.

Regarding the matter an official order has been sent to department concerned from prime minister’s office.

A letter signed by Mollah Wahedujjaman, senior secretary of Prime Minister Office, said that all law enforcement agencies will be deployed to ensure law and order during the 10th national election.

Liberation War affairs ministry, in coordination with other ministries, hosts the parade that takes place on the National Parade Square at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on December 16 to mark the country’s glorious triumph in the nine-month bloody war against the Pakistani marauding forces in 1971.

Earlier November 25, the Election Commission announced that the10th parliamentary election will be held on January 5 next year.

Later, 18-party alliance observed 71-hour blockade program protesting the election schedule and demanding restoration of caretaker government from Tuesday morning.
