Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir.
He also expressed deep sorrow and sympathy for the victims of the incident.
The Adviser’s Press Wing issued a statement on Wednesday (April 23).
In the message, Dr Yunus said, “Please accept my heartfelt condolences for the loss of lives in the terrorist attack at Pahalgam, Kashmir. We strongly condemn this brutality. Bangladesh reiterates its firm stance against terrorism.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement condemning the attack.
It said, “The terrorist attack in Kashmir has caused tragic loss of innocent lives. Bangladesh extends deep sympathy to the families of the victims and expresses sincere condolences to all those affected. Bangladesh reaffirms its unwavering commitment to the global fight against terrorism.”
According to reports, on Tuesday afternoon (April 22), gunmen opened fire indiscriminately at tourists in Baisaran valley, Pahalgam, killing 26 people and injuring several others.
Following the attack, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Saudi Arabia, cut his trip short and returned home. He stated that those responsible will pay a heavy price.
Indian media, citing central intelligence sources, reported that ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF), an offshoot of the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the attack.
