Around 2,40,000 people have taken refuge at seven thousand shelters in Cox's Bazar, according to the district administration.
Besides, about 50,000 people had taken shelter in hotels and motels in Cox's Bazar.
On Sunday (May 14) till 11:30am, they stayed in these shelters, said Md Basir Uddin, in charge of the control room of the district administration.
The very severe cyclone Mocha has started crossing Cox’s Bazar-north Myanmar coast and is likely to move north-northeasterly direction further and complete crossing Cox’s Bazar-North Myanmar coast near Sittwe of Myanmar by afternoon or evening on Sunday.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued a special bulletin in today’s morning in this regard.
The met office's 19th special bulletin said: "It is now crossing Cox's Bazar-North Myanmar coast. It is likely to move north-northeasterly direction further and complete crossing Cox's Bazar-North Myanmar coast near Sittwe (Myanmar) by afternoon today.
