Election Commission (EC) has no idea about the new visa policy announced by the United States for Bangladeshis.

EC Alamgir made the remark while replying to a question from reporters in the capital on Thursday (May 25).

Earlier, US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken in a statement while announcing the new visa policy said, "Under this policy, the United States will be able to restrict the issuance of visas for any Bangladeshi individual, believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining the democratic election process in Bangladesh,".

When journalists sought comment on the statement made by the US Secretary Alamgir said, "I will not comment on this, because these are inter-state matters."

"Our responsibility is to host fair elections. I will do whatever it takes to do that. Now whoever bars it is not part of the commission," he added.
