Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members arrested a gold smuggler along with 17 gold bars weighing 2.829 kg from Benapole border area on Saturday (May 27).

The arrestee was identified as Mikail Hossain Pintu, 30.

Jessore 49 BGB Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Jamil Hossain confirmed the matter through a press release.

He said Jessore 49 BGB and Maheshpur 58 BGB battalions conducted a joint operation on Benapole border. At that time, gold smuggler Pintu was arrested with gold bars.

The estimated market value of the recovered gold is Tk 2.83 crore, he said. 

Besides, a case against the detained accused will be filed and he will be handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, the BGB official added.
