Police arrested six persons after a case was filed over the killing of a Sramik League leader Opu Islam allegedly by throwing him off a building in Badda area of the capital.
Badda police arrested them including two teachers of Shatarkul School and three students of Dhaka International University (DIU).
However, the identities of the arrestees were not disclosed due to investigation purposes.
Badda police station officer-in-charge Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the matter.
The deceased Opu Islam, 35, hailed from Badda shatarkul area. He was convener of 41 number ward.
According to the case detail, there was an altercation between some students of DIU and Opu. Later, those students took Opu to an under-constructed building's rooftop and beat him severely. At one stage, those students threw him into a space reserved for the lift at 9 pm on Friday.
However, Opu was rushed to a Badda hospital, where the doctor declared him dead. Police have sent Opu's body to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital's morgue for autopsy.
Later, the deceased brother Khorshed on Saturday (June 10) filed a murder case as a plaintiff with Badda police station.
