The Electric Toll Collection System (ETCS) was launched on a trial basis at the Padma Bridge on Wednesday (July 5).
Automatic toll collection from moving vehicles began at 14 booths, at both ends of the Padma Bridge, using the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system.
The registered vehicles in front of the toll plaza will be detected by a camera and toll will be collected automatically.
Once the specific amount of toll is collected, the automatic barrier will be raised and the balance will be displayed on the screen.
With the operation of ETCS, two more booths have been set up at both ends of the bridge, said Md Manjur Hossain, secretary of Bridges Division.
He said this automatic toll collection system will make the toll collection faster and easier.
"Under the system, there will be a touch booth," he said, adding that if anyone has a card, they can use it as each booth has cash and debit card facilities.
