Police allegedly arrested a youth in a case filed over raping a woman at a restaurant building in the capital's Dhanmondi area on July 3.

The police arrested Mahadi Hasan Zarif, 25, from Jordan road under Kotwali Police Station in Barishal.

Officer-in-charge of Dhanmondi Police Station Parvez Islam confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

The accused admitted raping the woman, and said he used to develop friendships with several girls who came to the lake with friends.

Quoting the arrestee, the OC said the accused met the woman near Dhanmondi lake on July 3 and took her to a closed restaurant on the seventh floor of a building on Sat Masjid Road, where he raped her on the restaurant's rooftop.

The following day, the father of the 21-year-old victim filed a rape case with Dhanmondi Police Station against an unnamed accused.
