Man to die for killing Shanir Akhra trader

A Dhaka court today (July 24) sentenced one Md Hridoy to death for killing Tajul Islam Akon, 40, a pharmacy owner, in the capital's Shanir Akhra area in 2020.
 
Judge Khandaker ATM Tofayel of Dhaka Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court-14 pronounced the judgment in presence of the convict and sent him to jail with a conviction warrant.
 
Victim Tajul Islam, son of Abdul Malek Akon from Mehendiganj, Barishal, used to live in Haji Mosjid area in Shanir Akhra and run a pharmacy there.
 
According to the case documents, on July 19, 2020, Tajul returned home after closing his shop at around 1.30pm. After returning, he saw the lock of his home was broken and when he entered, saw Hridoy was stealing valuables from the home. As he grabbed Hridoy and started screaming, the thief stabbed him indiscriminately to get away.
 
Neighbours managed to catch the thief and rushed Tajul to hospital nearby, where the attending doctors declared him dead.
 
Tajul's brother Nurul Islam filed the case with Jatrabari Police Station. The court on March 20, 2022, framed charges against the lone accused. It came up with the judgment after examining 15 out of a total 17 witnesses.
