Dhaka: Some 154 candidates, mostly Awami League nominated aspirants, are set to be elected unopposed in the upcoming 10th general election as the BNP-led 18-party alliance boycotted the polls.
Of them, 127 candidates are of AL, 21 are of HM Ershad’s Jatiya Party and one of Anwar Hossain Manju-led Jatiya Party-JP, three from Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) and two from Workers Party.
Following the result, candidates will fight for rest other 146 seats in tenth national election.
Concerned people said that such types of events never happened in the history of Bangladesh and more than half of the voters will be deprived of right to vote.
On the other hand, wishing anonymity an officer of election commission said that the gazette declaring elected the 154 candidates, who will be lawmakers uncontested, will not be published now. After January 5 election, the gazette will be published with the result of all 300 constituencies.
Earlier on November 25, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed declared that the voting in the Tenth National Elections will be held on January 5 next year.
