Bashundhara Group, the largest industrial conglomerate of the country, is supporting police’s smart surveillance system in Keraniganj on the outskirts of the capital to keep the area crime-free.
With financial support from Bashundhara Group, five unions under Keraniganj Model Police Station are being brought under the coverage of 200 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid inaugurated the CCTV surveillance project as the chief guest at an event at local Semonty Convention Hall on Thursday (Novemebr 9).
Addressing the programme, the state minister expressed gratitude to Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir for supporting the smart surveillance project.
"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we’re materialising the dream of Golden Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through building Smart Bangladesh. Keraniganj will set an example of smart urbanship through this project," he said.
Nasrul Hamid acknowledged the role of Bashundhara Group in boosting police’s surveillance to improve living standard in Keraniganj residents.
“Keraniganj was once a haven of crime. The area turned a safe place for living over the last one decade. The smart surveillance system will bring peace in lives and livelihood of people," he said.
On behalf of Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir, conglomerate’s Executive Director Maksudur Rahman handed over a dummy cheque for Tk 100 million to Dhaka’s Superintendent of Police Md Asaduzzaman at the programme for implementing the project.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Dhaka Range) Syed Nurul Islam was the guest of honour at the programme while Keraniganj Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahin Ahmed and South Keraniganj Awami League General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Mamun were present as special guests.
Additional SP (Keraniganj Circle) Shahabuddin Kabir made the welcome speech at the event conducted by South Keraniganj Police Station's officer in-charge Mohammad Shajahan.
Bashundhara Group Chief Protocol Officer Mohsinul Karim, MD's Personal Secretary Aminul Islam, Bashundhara Oil and Gas Company Ltd Deputy General Manager Shamol Miah, Kaler Kantho Deputy Editor Haider Ali and News24 television's Deputy Chief News Editor Ashikur Rahman Srabon, MD Secretariat team members Ronit Sen, Maruf Kazi and Sohel were also present on the occasion.
Technology company 3S Technologies Limited is providing technological support for the project. The company has the experience of running surveillance system in Gulshan area of the capital.
The smart surveillance system will improve the security through smart patrolling of police, which will eventually curb crimes and political violence in the densely populated area.
