18 vehicles set on fire in 28 hours

At least 18 vehicles, including a train, were set on fire across the country in the past 28 hours till 5am Monday (November 20) before and during the 48-hour nationwide strike enforced by BNP and like-minded opposition parties.

Miscreants set alight an intercity train in Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur in the early hours of Sunday. Three compartments were burnt in the incident.

Besides, three of the arson attacks were reported in Dhaka city, seven in Natore, Bogura, Rajshahi, and Sirajganj, four in Chattogram, two in Feni, and one in Gazipur, according to the media cell of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The vehicles included nine buses, six trucks, one covered van, and a CNG-run autorickshaw, it said.

Twenty-nine firefighting units worked to douse the fires.
