DHAKA: Private mobile service operator Airtel conferred assistance to 61 families of workers who died in Rana Plaza tragedy, one of the world’s largest factory disaster.

Airtel Bangladesh Ltd. handed over ‘Recharge Retailer Kit’ to victim’s family members at a city restaurant on Wednesday.

A total of 61 families got Airtel handset, recharge load, shop kiosk and umbrellas with Airtel logo from a cooperative fund by service holders of Airtel.

Airtel Head of Sales ASM Golam Tauhid told the matter to media.

Airtel Chief Operating officer Rajnish Kaul said, “We pray the Rana Plaza-like disaster do not happen again and but such kind of disaster make people unite to rescue victims and stay beside them.”

Terming the assistance as gift, he said, “Airtel donation initiatives have an aim to make the families self-reliant.”

Under the initiatives, the mobile service operator will provide training to them as they can earn livelihood as Airtel retailer.

Airtel Chief Human resource officer Noor Mohammad, Chief corporate affairs officer Ashraful Haque Choudhwry, Head of legal department Sakib Sikder also attended the event.
