The Election Commission (EC) has summoned Abdul Hafiz Mallik, Member of Parliament of Barisal-6 Constituency, to explain violating polls rule.
Deputy Secretary of the EC's Election Management Branch Atiyar Rahman has sent a letter in this regard on Monday (May 13).
The EC has asked him to appear at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital at 12pm on Wednesday.
According to letter, “On May 8 you voted publicly at the polling station of Mangalsi Government Primary School centre of Barisal district in Bakerganj Upazila Parishad elections. About this incident report with pictures were published in various print and electronic media. Not protecting the secrecy of voting by balloting in public is a punishable election offence.”
The letter also asked why a case should not be filed against him for violating election rules.
