Low forms in Bay, heavy rain likely in three divisions

A low-pressure system is forming over the Bay of Bengal, with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasting comparatively heavier rainfall in three divisions.

On Sunday (Sept 28), meteorologist Md. Omar Faruq said the land depression over southern Odisha and adjoining areas had weakened further while moving northwest, turning into a well-marked low over Maharashtra and nearby regions. It may continue moving in the same direction and gradually dissipate.

He added that the monsoon trough currently stretches from the low-pressure centre across Chhattisgarh, Odisha, the northern Bay of Bengal, and southern Bangladesh to Assam.

The monsoon is less active over Bangladesh but remains moderate over the northern Bay. Another low-pressure system is likely to develop over the north and central Bay of Bengal around October 1.

Forecasts issued for Sunday night indicated rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds in parts of Mymensingh, Sylhet, and Chattogram divisions, as well as isolated areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions.

Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in some places across the country, while day and night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged.

For the 24 hours from Monday morning, similar weather is predicted, with scattered rain and thundershowers in Mymensingh and Dhaka divisions and isolated showers in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions.

Temperatures are expected to stay steady nationwide.
