Cyclone Remal crosses Bangladesh Coast

After making its landfall on the coast of Bangladesh on Sunday night, severe cyclonic storm Remal has moved northwards, currently positioned over Khulna-Satkhira, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

The BMD also said that the cyclone's center is now over Khulna-Satkhira and will take an additional 2-3 hours to pass completely.

According to its special bulletin, the maximum sustained wind speed within 64 km of the cyclone's center is approximately 90 kmph, with gusts reaching up to 120 kmph.

Maritime ports of Payra and Mongla have been advised to maintain great danger signal No. 10, while Cox’s Bazar and Chattogram should keep great danger signal No. 9.

The coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Barguna, Barishal, Bhola, Patuakhali, and their offshore islands and chars are under great danger signal No. 10, as noted in the bulletin.

Due to the impact of Cyclone Remal, coastal areas continue to experience heavy rainfall.

Bangladesh has evacuated more than 800,000 people from the coastal regions.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md. Mohibur Rahman said on Sunday, "We have already prepared 8,000 to 9,000 shelters. Adequate dry food, biscuits, water, and medical supplies have reached all the shelters."
