Bangladesh: Inflation hits highest in 12 years

A data published by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Monday (August 12) shows annual consumer price growth hit highest in 12 years in July reaching 11.66% from the same month last year.

Compared with prices of goods in June, July’s prices rose by 2.17%.

Student-led protests against government policies and heavy-handed measures adopted by authorities, including curfews, disrupted supply chains across the country, resulting in price hikes.

In July’s inflation rate, food prices made the biggest contribution rising by 14.10%, while prices of non-food items rose 9.68%.
