Shibir-cops gunfight hurt 4 in Ctg

 

CHITTAGONG: An activist of Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, sustained bullet injuries in a gunfight with police at Kanchona in Satkania upazila of the district early Saturday.

The victim was identified as Nasir, 40, an activist of Chhatra Shibir and member of Basir Bahini.

During the gunfight, three police officers of Satkania police station were wounded.

They are Sub Inspectors Nazmul, Fuzlur and ASI Ansarul.

Officer-in charge of Shatkania police station Khaled Hossain told banglanews, Nasir was detained by police at 12:30am. As per his statement, police along with Nasir went to Dhupipara to recover firearms.

Sensing their presence, Basir Bahini members opened fire on law enforcers. In reply, police also fired back that triggered gunfight, leaving Nasir injured.

Police also held another Shibir cadre named Rimon and recovered a light gun, a pistol, eight rounds of bullets, two choppers and a knife.

Injured Nasir and three cops were rushed to Upazila Helath Complex and later he was shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
