221 Malaysia-bound held with trawlers

COX’S BAZAR: Coast Guard and Navy personnel detained 221 people and seized two trawlers from East-South estuary of Bay of Bengal near to Saint Martin’s Island of Teknaf of the district early Tuesday.
   
Acting on tip off, the law enforcers conducted drive in the area and picked up them around 5:00am while they were being trafficked to Malaysia illegally through the sea route.
    
Confirming the matter, Coast Guard Saint Martin’s Station Commander Lieutenant Arif told banglanews that the trawler started journey with 221 people on board to Teknaf.

Of them, 20 are women and 17 are children hailed from Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Comilla, Chanpainawabganj, and Satkhira districts.
 
After arrival at Teknaf, the detainees will be handed over to police, he added.
