Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a teenager along with 10 gold bars at the Bhomra border in Satkhira.
Police arrested Suman Islam, 17, on Thursday (Nov 14) in the Phalmor area of the Bhomra border.
The detainee, Suman, is the son of the late Abdul Gafur Gazi and a resident of Lakshidari village in Bhomra Union under Satkhira Sadar upazila.
Lt Col Md Ashraful Haque, Commander of BGB Satkhira-33 Battalion, said that acting on a tip-off, a BGB team, led by Bhomra BOP’s Company Commander Subedar Md Afzal Hossain, positioned themselves in the Phalmor area. While on foot towards the border, Suman was intercepted, and upon searching him, the BGB team recovered 10 gold bars wrapped in black tape from his pants pocket.
The estimated market value of the seized gold is around TK 1.4 crore.
Following the arrest, Suman was handed over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station, and the gold bars were deposited at the Satkhira Treasury Office.
